Our goal is to compare women's healthcare access in the United States and France.
We look to compare the health care systems and women’s access within them between the United States and France. Healthcare is a hot button issue in the United States, particularly surrounding women. Though the Affordable Healthcare Act (Obamacare) mandated women could not be charged more than men for insurance as well as making birth control non-copay, 1 in 5 Americans do not have insurance. Despite these safeguards there is backlash in the form of constant defunding of Planned Parenthood, the largest healthcare provider for low income women. Furthermore, the American Health Care Act (Trumpcare), and the subsequent secretive healthcare bill being pushed through the senate, makes various women specific issues preexisting conditions that can deny women coverage.
In contrast, France has a healthcare system in which everyone is obligated to opt in and have insurance as a part of being employed. Additionally, insurance agencies are non-profit. These factors coupled with the cultural differences surrounding sexuality will alter the landscape of women’s healthcare.
It is our mission to find out how.
